Where Imagination Becomes Art, Fashion Becomes Healing, and Every Garment Tells a Story

For Keiona Cook, fashion has never been simply about clothing. It has always been about self-expression, healing, transformation, and the extraordinary power of imagination.

Born and raised in Chicago, IL on 63rd and Carpenter, Keiona Cook's creative journey began long before she understood that fashion would become her life's calling. Growing up, her mother instilled in her the importance of love, resilience, creativity, and independence. At just six years old, Keiona learned to sew by hand and began spending countless hours sketching beautiful women dressed in extraordinary garments with her mom at the kitchen table.

As a child, Keiona experienced trauma when her stepfather would lock her inside a closet. Rather than allowing fear to consume her, she discovered an imaginative world within that space. Surrounded by her mother's beautiful furs, dresses, clothing, and high heels, she began transforming moments of fear into moments of creativity. Fashion became her refuge. Imagination became her freedom. And designing became her way of healing.

At 16, Keiona relocated from Chicago to Minnesota, where she completed her sophomore, junior, and senior years at North High School in Minneapolis. Her passion for fashion eventually led her to the prestigious Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design in May 2003. In August 2004, she established Qe'Bella Couture in Minneapolis, Minnesota, transforming her childhood passion into a professional couture fashion label.

Couture as a Celebration of Life, Moments, and Imagination

Qe'Bella Couture is an expression of Keiona's bold personality, artistic imagination, and unwavering belief that fashion should make women and little girls feel beautiful from the inside out. Her designs are whimsical, architectural, enchanting, sophisticated, empowering, and unapologetically original. Known for her dramatic silhouettes, vibrant colors, unexpected fabric combinations, and intricate construction techniques, Keiona approaches each garment as an opportunity to tell a story.

Her collections are more than clothing. They are celebrations of experiences, moments in time, imagination, and the beauty of being uniquely yourself.

Keiona's creative process begins with inspiration, but she often believes the fabrics themselves determine what they are destined to become. She embraces the unexpected, allowing colors, textures, patterns, and materials to guide her toward extraordinary creations. From sculptural couture garments and dramatic runway pieces to custom eveningwear, bridal designs, and innovative denim creations, Qe'Bella Couture reflects Keiona's ability to transform imagination into wearable art.

Her design philosophy is rooted in a simple belief:

Fashion should uplift, empower, inspire, and transform the person wearing it

When Sewing Becomes a Symphony

For Keiona, designing is also deeply personal. Her imagination is constantly moving, exploring possibilities, envisioning silhouettes, and discovering new creative directions. But something remarkable happens when she sits behind a sewing machine. The noise quiets. The distractions disappear.

And the rhythmic movement of the machine becomes something beautiful.

“When I begin sewing, it's like listening to a symphony. The noise in my mind disappears, and everything begins moving together like the beautiful sound of a violin.”

This is where Keiona finds clarity, peace, and creative freedom.

For her, couture is not simply about producing garments. It is a deeply personal artistic experience that continues to provide healing, purpose, and joy.

From Chicago Roots to International Runways

With more than two decades of professional design experience, Keiona continues expanding the reach of Qe'Bella Couture through fashion shows, international travel, creative collaborations, and community engagement.

On September 12, 2026, she showcased her original couture collection during New York Fashion Week at Sony Hall in Times Square, presenting her distinctive vision on an international fashion platform.

In October of 2026, she also participated in Fashionopolis, presenting three original couture garments in a production by Grant Whittaker, hosted by Mpls.St.Paul Magazine

Keiona produced her first kid fashion show at the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia) in October 2026, further demonstrating her commitment to making fashion accessible, engaging, and inspiring for audiences of all ages.

Her international experiences include traveling to Ghana and attending Paris Fashion Week in spring 2024, opportunities that have continued to broaden her creative perspective.

Looking ahead to 2027, Keiona has received invitations to participate in fashion events in Thailand and Paris, reflecting the expanding international interest in her work.

Recognition, Creativity, and Community Impact

Keiona's contributions to fashion, entrepreneurship, and community empowerment have earned her numerous recognitions.

In 2025, she was recognized by Mpls.St.Paul Magazine as one of its 20 Icons, celebrating her influence and contributions to the Twin Cities creative community.

She was also featured on the cover of Minnesota Women's Press in August 2025 and received the TJ Maxx True Originals Award, which included $28,000 in recognition and support.

Additional honors include the Black Business Ball Media Bridge Award (2024), TeamWomen WaveMaker Award (2021), and recognition for her leadership, creativity, and dedication to empowering others.

Beyond couture, Keiona is the founder and executive director of Lovely's Sewing & Arts Collective, a nonprofit organization established in June 2009.

Through the organization, Keiona and her team have taught more than 2,500 youth, teens, and adults the trade skill of sewing while introducing critical thinking, problem-solving, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and creative independence.

Her work reflects a deeply held belief that success is not simply about opening doors for herself but also creating opportunities for others to discover their own talents and possibilities.

The Woman Behind the Couture

Keiona Cook is a designer who embraces every dimension of her personality.

She is bold, imaginative, passionate, playful, resilient, and constantly evolving.

She loves dramatic colors but appreciates subtle elegance. She embraces unconventional materials, unexpected silhouettes, and the creative possibilities that emerge when someone gives her a theme.

Her imagination thrives on challenges.

And even after more than 20 years of designing, she continues pushing herself to grow, experiment, and discover new dimensions of her artistry.

She is not interested in becoming another designer.

She is committed to becoming an even greater version of Keiona Cook.

At its heart, Qe'Bella Couture is a reflection of the little girl from Chicago who discovered beauty and imagination during some of life's most difficult moments.

Today, that same imagination continues transforming fabric into extraordinary garments and helping women and girls embrace their own beauty, confidence, and individuality. Qe'Bella Couture is more than a fashion label. It is a celebration of life, resilience, creativity, and the transformative power of fashion.

Designed with imagination. Created with purpose. Worn with confidence
